A large portion of Harvest's operating budget is earned from charitable donations. In 2008, nearly $921,586.00 must be fund-raised to meet our operational needs. Our advancement department has the critical responsibility of reaching donors with the Harvest story. Several methods are used to accomplish this vital task. Our bimonthly newsletter “Seasons” keeps donors informed of current events, success stories, and needs of the ministry. TV commercials, billboards, newspaper, and radio public service announcements are designed to increase public awareness of our purpose and mission. Several advancement representatives are available to make presentations about the ministry to churches and civic organizations.
Volunteers play an important role in the ministry of Harvest. Many will assist with household chores, provide tutoring to the children, and complete maintenance projects on our building and grounds. Special days are scheduled for groups to come and mow grass, work in flower beds, repair fences, paint or do general spring cleaning. Some groups have provided materials and completed major maintenance and remodeling projects.
This year Harvest is conducting a special fund-raising campaign called “Burn the Mortgage.” Three dates have been designated for churches to receive a special offering for this project. April 6th, June 15th, and September 7th . Businesses, civic groups and individuals are also encouraged to provide a special contribution to assist with this campaign.
Donations such as food, paper products, cleaning supplies are important to the home. Inkind gifts serve to reduce our grocery expenses. Gift cards to local grocery stores such as Food Lion, Walmart, and Food City are appreciated. Churches, individuals, and groups are encouraged to schedule a time to bring their gifts and tour the campus.
Harvest hosts an annual Christmas Celebration. Sponsors from across Virginia , Kentucky , North Carolina, and Tennessee gather on a specified day to give their “adopted” child the Christmas of a lifetime. Each child receives his/her own Christmas tree complete with lights, decorations, and gifts. Churches interested in “adopting” a child should contact the Advancement Office at (276) 523-2315.
If your church or organization would like to hear more about our ministry, contact our Advancement Director or the representative closest to you.
